The Serra de Lousã, located only 30 kilometres from Coimbra, is part of the Portuguese Central Mountain Range, together with Serra do Açor and Serra da Estrela, and includes 12 of the 27 Schist Villages of Portugal.
In these villages the passion that residents have for their homes is undeniable.
From the network of river beaches that allow for peaceful moments in the purest waters of the country to the 600 km of open-air footpaths, there are various tourism and leisure activities closely related to nature and the cultural traditions of the region.

Aigra Nova
One of the schist villages of Serra de Lousã with more points of interest for visitors is Aigra Nova. Despite the Maternity Tree Hospital, its "must-visit" central point is the Tradições do Xisto Ecomuseum. Tasting the traditional "gamelinhas de castanha" and taking a donkey ride through the mountains are two of the many activities that this lively village offers.
Candal
Another of the main villages of this mountain is the xisto village of Candal. Presenting us with a formidable view over the valley, this village is synonymous with good company and fresh air, full of scenic and monumental treasures, such as Trevim, the viewpoint and the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Piedade.
Casal de São Simão
Defined by tradition and a wealth of endogenous products, the schist village Casal de São Simão is one of the hidden corners of the Serra de Lousã. Although the clear waters of the Fragas de São Simão Fluvial Beach are the main tourist attraction, the extensive walkways and the belvedere offer a breathtaking panorama.
Cerdeira
Considered the village of the arts, is the village of xisto Cerdeira. Cerdeira is a magical place.
Walking through the village is a physical and sensory exercise. At each step there is a nook, an alley, an element that you don't know if it was put there by Man or by Nature. There is no dissonance. There is the sound of tranquillity.
Talasnal
Despite all these wonders, Talasnal is the xisto village of the Serra de Lousã that steals the hearts of visitors.
The charming traditional cottages made of schist, decorated with vine branches, are worthy of the slogan "Talasnal, Mountains of love".
The olive press, the fountain and the village tank are points not to be missed during the visit to this lost tourist treasure, where the friendliness is as contagious as the serene landscape. At night, the village lights illuminate the darkness, creating a breathtaking and (even) more romantic scenery, making the visit to Talasnal a unique moment.
